Went to see Irreversible last night at the George cinemas in St Kilda, where the French Film Festival is being held. The film is very well constructed, although the strobe lighting in the opening and closing scenes, along with the whirling camera movement in the first scene, was a little hard to take.

By showing scenes in reverse, the film does a good job of helping us understand the revenge killing that we have seen. It's also nice to see the credits at the start and not get them again at the end. Showing scenes in reverse also allows us some time to recover after the rape scene. The film would leave us rather happy if not for the knowledge that she is about to be raped just after finding out that she is pregnant.
