Male vs. female

The main difference between fathers and mothers seems to be that mothers wake up when a baby cries.

Jesara was awake a lot on Friday night, pushing Theresa to the end of her tether. I recall that Jesara's screaming was weaving into my dreams, but not quite enough to wake me up so I could do something about it. I did wake up, though, when Theresa stormed out of the room, slammed the door and slammed Jesara's door. I assumed it was because Jesara had been crying for some time and I hadn't got up. Apparently, though, it was because she couldn't find her slippers.

So, why don't I wake as easily? Or better still, why doesn't Jesara sleep through the night?...
