- I get the impression that the port install process of MacPorts gets niced down to bugger all, as this installation is taking forever! Over 30 mins so far to install a dependency, just so I can attempt installation of PDFedit, which may or may not work.

It couldn't be clearer why Mac apps are self-contained packages.

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.
Alternatively, you may set the environment variables RANDR_CFLAGS
and RANDR_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
