Not happy

The Evil Free Trade Agreement has been signed with America. Okay, so it's not evil, but there are parts of it that make me unhappy. In particular, this:

http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/04/02/09/0211225.shtml?tid=99

Included in the treaty is an agreement for Australia to implement American-style DMCA copyright laws, extensions to the term of copyright, and an agreement to move towards American-style patent and trademark laws

The thing that I dislike most, is this:
  • "An increased term of protection for copyright material"

  • Making copyright valid until 50 years after the author's death is silly. See Founders' Copyright for the original scheme - 14 years of copyright protection from the date of creation - much fairer.

And now they want us to follow the US and increase the term from 50 years to 70 years after death? Sigh.
